InnerCHANGE East Africa

InnerCHANGE Kenya is a training and sending hub for missional sports coaches working in the marginalized communities of Nairobi. Despite being the most developed city in East Africa, over half of Nairobi’s population lives in communities facing poverty. The financial pressures that families face create scenarios where youth are free to wander the streets, lacking guidance and safe spaces to gather.

We are gripped by a similar heart’s cry to that of Moses in Numbers 27. When Moses knew he would no longer lead the Israelites, he cried out to God, “May the LORD, the God who gives breath to all living things, appoint someone over this community to go out and come in before them, one who will lead them out and bring them in, so the LORD’s people will not be like sheep without a shepherd.” (Numbers 27:16-17)  We long for young people in Nairobi’s marginalized neighborhoods to experience God’s shepherd heart, and we believe caring sports programs and coaches can play a vital role in seeing that become a reality.

Our mission in InnerCHANGE Kenya is to proclaim the love of Jesus by multiplying shepherding disciple making sports ministry hubs in the marginalized communities of Nairobi. Our goal is to see a Deep Coaching hub in every distinct marginalized neighborhood in Nairobi.  These hubs are hives of relational activity where young people are deeply cared for, and where intentional discipleship of the whole community can take place.

We long for these sports programs to be guided by transformational disciples of Jesus who are marked by merciful action, transformative contemplation, and prophetic justice.

We envision these hubs to be fun, safe, joy filled spaces where youth gather to:

1. Experience God’s love and receive holistic care

2. Feel deeply affirmed in their identity as children of God

3. Play in an environment of redeemed competition

4. Develop their gifts and grow in Christlikeness

5. Internalize a vision for the Kingdom of God

6. Dream dreams of how they will co-labor with God in seeing His kingdom come on Earth
